1300 Thanks for your support

Thank you, everyone, for your generous support of The Ormsby Review. We launched our 2021 fundraiser on July 15th. Between then and October we sent out batches of emails to supporters and friends of The Ormsby Review. I am delighted to report that exactly 100 donors contributed a grand total of $18,700.

In our 2020 fundraiser we raised just over $15,000 in donations.

As well, earlier this year an anonymous donor connected to Graduate Liberal Studies at Simon Fraser University established an endowment of $15,000 to support the partnership between The Ormsby Review and the Graduate Liberal Studies Journal. In October 2021 we received an initial interest advance of $600 on the endowment.

We also had the good news recently that our request to Creative BC for a grant of $15,000 was successful and is forthcoming.

It is expensive running a journal, even an on-line and digital one run from a laptop in a home office and coffee shops (Covid willing!). All our expenses so far in 2021 have been paid for from donations. We offer our reviewers, on an optional basis, an honorarium of $100 per book review. So far in 2021 we’ve paid $7,500 for 75 book reviews. We thank all our reviewers, including those who choose to donate their honoraria back to The Ormsby Review.

Switching to a larger lens, we had our 5th anniversary (2016-2021) on October 17th and since then we have posted an additional 48 book reviews, all of books by BC authors.
