The BC Review Annual Fundraiser, 2025

Please take a moment to contribute to our annual fundraiser at The British Columbia Review. In our 2024 campaign we raised $14,000 from 158 donors, which represents about a quarter of our income, the rest coming from grants, advertising, and partnerships. I hope we can equal that amount again this year. A big thank you to those who have already donated.

Unlike publications with a paywall, The British Columbia Review is free to anyone with access to the internet. But it is only free because we receive private donations along with grants and advertising revenue. Early in 2025, American tariffs hit our advertising income hard. Most BC publishers sell their books in the US. Publishers’ revenue from American sales dropped overnight and financial anxiety took hold. It has been a tough year and I hope you are in a position to donate.

Donations may be made here by e-transfer, Pay Pal, or cheque.

If you plan to donate by cheque, please make it out to The Ormsby Literary Society and mail it to:

Fiction and poetry editor
Brett Josef Grubisic

I’d like to thank our two supportive boards, whose names can be found here. We are all grateful to our interim editors for their excellent work: Trevor Marc Hughes (non-fiction editor) in Vancouver and Brett Josef Grubisic (fiction & poetry editor) on Salt Spring Island. They are now in their third year at The British Columbia Review while my unpaid “sabbatical” in North Saanich continues.

Nonfiction editor and video segment producer
Trevor Marc Hughes

Since February 2023, our Interview Series, curated by video segment producer Trevor Marc Hughes, has found two regular timeslots on Rogers TV on Thursdays and Saturdays, airing across Vancouver Island, and we’ve just passed the 90-interview mark. 200 subscribers regularly view the interview videos online to our YouTube Channel. Over the past year, Trevor has spoken to some accomplished literary figures on camera, including George Bowering, Shashi Bhat, Eddy Boudel Tan, and Anosh Irani.

Rounding out our productive team are Myshara Herbert-McMyn (social media manager) in Mara, B.C.; Liv Cadwallader (bibliographer) in St. John’s, Newfoundland; and Shane Birley (website troubleshooter) in Vancouver.

Thank you again for your support.
